I really have nothing for show and tell this time. I did finish another baby blanket from squares donated by All_Crafts_4_Charity Yahoo group for a hospital in Wyoming. All I need to do is work in the ends. I also need to work on more dishcloths for the CraftingForACause Yahoo groups challenge for this month.
I'm currently working on a rectangle shawl for the current project at Afghans 4 Afghans but it's taking me forever. The clients I've been taking care of lately give me little or no time for breaks. It is my own pattern and when I'm done I'll be posting it here.
We're having a family barbecue today. I had to work yesterday and since I'm the mom they had to wait. We'll actually be having it over at DD's house, she has a yard all I have is a 4' X 6' patio. My two college kid sons will be there too. It's not often I can get everyone together.
I've been having a blast making and giving away the green grocery bags. The latest contest to give them away will end tonight over on my Deb's Going Green blog.
I did start another blog, this one is about cooking. In my job of taking care of the elderly, one of my duties is to cook hot, nutritious meals for my clients. Often I'm faced with the problem of not having what I think I "need" for certain recipes. I've become very creative in cooking with what's on hand and this blog is about my experiences doing just that. So go take a peek at Deb Cooks and tell me what you think.

Well, I had a winner in my last contest. I'm just waiting to see what prize she's going to choose. I'm not going to start another one right now since I've had very little time off to take care of things. The client I'm taking care of right now takes a lot of care and I've had very little time for my crocheting. I'm also working 6 or 7 days a week and have had no time at all for sewing, since I only do that whe I'm home.
.
Last week I mailed out 3 infant sweater sets and a bunch more hats and booties for the Inuit tribes in northern Canada. I'm currently working on a baby blanket and don't really know where it's going to go.
.
I'm a little stressed, but this too shall pass. The company I work for (In-home care for the elderly) seems to go in cycles between working like crazy and not getting enough hours. I've learned to take it all as it comes.
.
Oh well, that's it for now. Won't be home again until Tues. (I have Jury duty that day so they had to let me off LOL) Maybe I'll have a few minutes to take a few pictures and share a new pattern.

My youngest, my baby, my little boy turns 21 today. There is no way I can be that old. I'm trying to forget my oldest turned 30 last year. Time goes by so quickly!
.
Don't forget to enter the contest posted below. This is not going to be my only contest and I desperately need ideas for prizes. I'll be drawing the winner next week on my day off (no idea when that will be).
.
I'm not supposed to be off today, so it's a surprise day off. I don't know when I'll be back home next week as I won't know my schedule until Friday. Since I work as a live-in caregiver when I leave tomorrow to go to work I really won't be home again until my next day off.
.
Lori from one of my quilting Yahoo Groups sent me a box of orphan quilt blocks. They are awesome, I'm going to work at trying to join some of them into quilts today. Thank you so much Lori.

Finally home after 11 days! I had no idea I would be gone so long this time, I was really only prepared to be gone 5 or 6 days. I did get some more items done for the Baby Pack Project and will be getting the package ready to mail out later today. I also got a scarf done for Pine Ridge Reservation. I joined some of my donated squares but ran out of yarn, will be looking through my stockpile for something appropriate later today.
On one of my "breaks" last week I was able to go to a thrift shop near my clients home and found four large bags of quilt batting!! Also a couple large bags a fabric and yarn. Now if I only had more time to sew. In my mail from last week are two quilt tops I need to tie and send back and getting the batting when I did is great timing, I won't have to buy new.
I will be posting pictures and of course the sweater set pattern I promised later today.

I received a package of yarn from Jill L. in NY and have looked all over for her email address on my computer and can't find it. I really hopes she sees this. Thank you so much Jill!!
I just got back from an eight day live-in and I am exhausted. I only have today off and I have so much to do.
I just received a Thank You note from the Cangleska, which is the women's shelter on Pine Ridge Reservation, thanking me for my last donation.
I've been able to do a few sweater sets for The Baby Pack Project and chemo caps for my pledges this month. I'll be posting pics later today. I'll have to count but I think I've got all twelve chemo caps done.
I have to go thrift shop cruising later today and need to go to WalMart for some red thread to finish some things I'm working on.
I was talking to a hospice nurse about donations of lap robes and afghans and am going to have to look into it further. Her hospice company gets enough donations but others may not. She did tell me that she preferred quilts to knitted or crocheted items for the nursing home patients because you could put their name on it and it was less likely to get lost.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my US readers. Wishing you plenty of turkey and family to fill your day. Remember those less fortunate while you enjoy your meal and start planning the next project!
I've been rather busy making Christmas presents for the family, money is going to be really tight this year and I told them all I was making gifts instead of buying them this year. I also told my sons that their college education is a four year long gift from me. Although they get financial aid it still costs me a lot to get them through. The end is in sight though, the older one's a senior and his brother is a junior.
I wish I could post pictures of the gifts but of course I can't. I'll have to wait till Christmas I guess and then take a pic of them all with their presents. My grandkids are getting cuddle blankets and the rest are all getting wearables and that's all I'm going to say. LOL

A disaster has struck!! I lost my N hook. I thought I had it with me at work yesterday (I do live-in care for the elderly) but couldn't find it so I came home today and have looked everywhere for it. Even crawling around looking under stuff. I am, of course, blaming it on Things 1 and 2, but they're sitting here looking at me innocently and wondering why I'm acting so strangely.
Now that I have the packages to Pine Ridge sent off, it's time to concentrate on Christmas presents and Project Linus again. I worked on a red, white and blue never ending blanket yesterday and since I managed to collect some more pastels, I think I should be ready to finish the pastel one you can see in the picture.
I also worked on some Christmas booties for a NICU in a hospital in Kansas. One of the yahoo groups I belong to, All Crafts 4 Charity is doing this. I promised 6 hat and bootie sets. I already had the hats done and I thought I only needed 4 sets of booties but when I got home I could only find one other set. I can't even blame this one on the cats since they're not allowed in the craft room.
I went to Leftovers, I think I mentioned it before, and was able to buy a bag of pink and purple yarns. they had no wrappers so I have to figure out the content but I'm hoping to make a nice little girl blanket with it.
That's about it right now. I'll be posting a pattern for a Christmas Stocking Newborn Bootie sometime today.

I did it!! I actually managed to go to WalMart and walk out without any yarn!! Then, I went to our local quilt shop and bought a sewing machine (used of course). Now I am not only going to have to resist the yarn but the fabric, too!!
I'm about halfway through all that brown yarn. I am so sick of looking at browns and tans I can't see straight. But I promised myself I wouldn't work on anything else until I'm finished with it. It got so bad yesterday I couldn't go on. I actually (gasp) watched TV. Today I've thought of a million things to do except work with the brown yarn. I have finished 4 pairs of Manly Man Slippers and am about halfway through a double strand lapghan. I'm kinda, sorta following my never-ending blanket non-pattern but I'm not continuing on to another blanket. Instead I'm using the smaller leftovers of yarn to make squares for point of contact afghans for The Ships Project.
Just a note, the main charity I do work for is Project Linus who provide security blankets to seriously ill and traumatized children. I also collect squares, either crocheted or knitted (and now that I have a sewing machine, quilt blocks) to put together for these kids. If you'd like to help leave a comment with your email address and I will contact you. I do moderate all comments and anything with personal info will not be published on the blog.
