Gone for Awhile and Contest Question

Contest is closed, The winners name is posted here.

I am going to be gone for at least a week and will not be able to moderate or respond to comments and questions. I will take care of that on my next day home.
.
Now the contest. I have no idea what to offer for a prize, so my first contest question is: What would you like to see as a prize? Leave a comment telling me what you would like to win and I will draw a name when I get back. If I draw your name you will not necessarily get the prize you suggested. I can't offer much so if you would like to win a new car you need to go somewhere else.
.
I will post the name of the winner here if I have no other way to reach them.

Hi Deb! I'm Swapna and I came over from CP. I love contests and for yours I'd like to win a Local Yarn Store. No?

Oh well, it was worth a try. Ok, then, surprise, surprise, I'd love to win yarn! Sportweight, natural fibres, pleasant colours...you know, the regular yarn diet :)

I would love to see sock yarn as a prize.

I would want Manly Man Slippers, as those look rather nice!

I hold a contest on my blog every other month and the prizes were always the hardest part.

Here are some suggestions...

1- Novelty items like stitch markers, counters, needle sizers etc.

2- Something you have hand made

3- A yarn you found on sale, usually enough for a small project, like cotton for a dishcloth or even acrylic for a scarf or something.

4- Something you can buy from an ETSY store (in your price range) that you can then have shipped to the winner

5- A pattern that is for sale on a website (usually about $2.00) that the designer will send via email directly to the winner.

I hope these help you.
I will link this contest on my blog hopefully you'll get some more ideas.

Most of all HAVE FUN with it. I love holding a contest. It make blogging so much FUN

cool contest! I have always liked contests giving away yarn, or even notions such as sock bags, stitch markers, etc.

Hi Deb,
First I want to tell you that I love your site. My son loves the finger puppets I've made for him. I'm getting better and can soon start making some for charity.
And I especially love the idea of a contest.
There is one thing I have been wanting. And maybe just maybe...
The crochet a day calendar...Is that just ridiculous. LOL. But there it is....I've said it.
The car would be nice. But I've got one of those. What I don't have is the calendar.

Safe journey.

Deb,
I check out your blog fairly frequently. Love the things you do! If I were to win your contest, I would like a couple of 8" squares made from the tans/browns yarn that you got at the thrift store recently for the Crochet Partners Comfortghan that I'm assembling.
Hope your trip is for pleasure!

How about baby yarn, especially for making charity items?

Hi Deb - First of all let me wish you a safe journey on your trip and now for the type of prize that I would like to win would be sock yarn then that would give me an excuse to try and make a pair. That is one of my WIM's sometime in the future.

I have always loved receiving Walmart Gift certificates, as you can then buy what you need whether it's a batting, or yarn or a crochet hook you lost, or a notebook to keep track of humanitarian donations...

All good things. =)

Hi Deb-
I think yarn would be a great prize, maybe some worsted weight for my charity knitting. Another think I would love is a sock bag.

I think a yarn assortment with novelty items or patterns would be great. Also a gift card to a craft store would be super.

I would love to win any little gadget for crochet or knitting--e.g. stitch markers, gauge ruler.

I would be happy to win some Yarn......which can be used to make a small project like scarf.
Cheers,

Hi Deb, stopping over from CP! I think a nice prize would be some sort of 'different' yarn...something unusual. Or maybe a nice bamboo hook, or a small pattern book. All these things can get expensive though so you'd probably be best to find them in Etsy. It's so nice of you to offer a contest on your blog!

This is the first I've visited your blog. Very cool!! I have just started this crochet/knit journey so I would like threads. Yes threads not yarns. The yarns to me are bulky I like the delicate threads to make tableclothes and doilies. Thank you for your wonderful blog and I think I'll have to branch to yarn for the Swiffer idea. :-)

I would love some crocheted socks. Comfortable ones.

Hi Deb, I'm also from CP! As I prize, I would like to win 200 crochet blocks or other crochet books, as they are just hard to get where I am. But yarn wouldn't go a stray either.

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Hello Deb,
What a neat idea for a contest, kinda like an un-contest. :-)
The best prize in a contest is always yarn or something related, like; WIP bags, stitch markers, stitch holders, needle holders, really any kind of needlework notions.
I'm not picky really just love anything yarn and crochet and knitting related.

Hi Deb,
I hope you don't start laughing right now. If I were in a contest I would love to win internal bag and coin purse frames, vintage purse frames, magnetic snaps and baby yarn. The reason is very simple, I live in Cape Verde (a small archipel on the western coast of africa) and there are no shops dedicated to bag acessories. Concerning the baby yarn I can find some here but there aren't many options and I never find those lovely yarns with different shades of the same color or different colors. Finally I've been dreaming of having a bamboo hook or one of those who are so nicely decorated with beans. Guess I'll only get one of those when I travel abrought.
I wish you a lovely day.

I LOVE LOVE Love yarn. And afghan patterns, things that are easy to work up. I'm a relative newbie to crocheting so beginner stuff is what I look for.

Always yarn!! Even bits & pieces-they can be worked into so many projects. Original patterns. Even if a person wins something that they don't care for, it can be re-gifted. Julianne

Hi I love your site. I think for a prize sock yarn, or sotton for babies would be nice. I Love your finger puppets. But all in all I like surprises.

If i could choose, i'd love to win some Sock yarn!

Sandie said...

Gift certificates would be easiest. Can't go wrong with yarn either. Hooks are good but crocheters usually are staunch Boye or Bates style. A crocheted item! Those who crochet often don't make things for themselves. Dishcloths, doilies, bookmarks...

Since I don't have a LYS near me, I'd love to win some type of yarn I can't get at Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, Meijers, or JoAnn's (which are the only stores near me that carry yarn.)

I would love to see everyone that posted here to make a hat for a group called Lil Troopers. You can find their link on my blog at: www.scarley-pooh.com They supply hats and such to our military babies that are born each month. A wonderful group, and it take just some scrap yarn to make a newborn hat. :) Is anyone up for that challenge?

I think that would be a great prize in Deb's honor for all the beautiful patterns that she shares with us.

Scarlet

Great contest! A good prize would be a pattern for something small (and unusual) and the yarn and supplies to complete it. A kit of sorts. For people who are getting started or just returning again (like me) that would be great.

Yarn is always good, as are notions. I keep losing yarn needles, in particular, and I've also been looking for nice buttons lately. Something you made would be special, too.

Hey, guess what! I don't knit or crochet, but I am still entering your contest. Do you have a quick and easy quilt pattern you want to send away? I'll take it off your hands. Or a new rotary cutter blade (45mm). Can always use one of those. Fun contest! (I love the cute red sweater.)
